[2002-Napa
California]
headquartered Robert Mondavi Winery placed their
Santa Maria valley regional winery and 1,400
acres on the market. Mondavi selected Al D.
Mendrin of Fresno, California based, London
Properties, Ltd., as the listing agent for the
$38.45 million Santa Barbara County property.
The "original" Byron Winery, which is 18 years
old, is being sold because Mondavi constructed
a new, larger Byron facility in 1996. The Byron
"label" is not part of the sale.
The vineyard acreage being sold consists of
three ranches: (Nielson with 350+/- acres; Sierra
Madre with 750+/- acres; and Garey with 358
+/- acres). There are approximately 1,000 acres
planted to vineyards, and over 700 acres of
the vines have been developed to resistant rootstocks
between 1997-2000.
"Mondavi will continue to maintain a strong
presence in the Central Coast wine industry.
We farm and contract with growers on over 13,400
acres of vineyards located on the California
Central Coast" said Andy Bledsoe, Mondavi's
Vice President of Winegrower Relations. "This
is an excellent property" added Al D. Mendrin,
the agent overseeing the marketing of the property.
"We are offering a variety of ways to purchase
this property by the ranch, in sections or as
a complete property."
"The Santa Maria AVA region is one of the coolest
wine growing regions in California, capable
of producing high end, 'luxury' price points
wines over $25 per bottle truly quality properties"
concluded Mendrin.
